Out of 34 provinces in Indonesia, Aceh is in the third position regarding the prevalence
of stunting in children under five. Stunting might be caused by problems associated with
balanced nutrition in the children which can affect their physique, mental, thinking
abilities, and loss of life expectancy. Several indicators to determine the fulfillment of
balanced nutrition in children under five include knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of
the family. The purpose of this study was to find out the overview of the family’s
knowledge, attitude, and behavior regarding balanced nutrition fulfillment of children
under five in the working area of Jeulingke Community Health Center in Banda Aceh.
This exploratory quantitative research was conducted by means of a cross-sectional study
approach. A number of 104 respondents were chosen as the research samples by
employing a non-probability sampling technique, specifically the quota sampling method.
The data were collected by distributing three questionnaires to measure the knowledge,
attitude and behavior. The results indicated that the knowledge of 103 respondents
(99.0%) was in good category, that the attitude of 103 respondents (99.0%) was in good
category, and that the behavior of 103 respondents (99.0%) was in good category. Hence,
it is suggested that the health care providers do health promotion to maintain or improve
the family’s knowledge, attitude, and behavior in order to minimize the risk of stunting
in children under five.
