Formulations and in vitro sunscreen lotion activity testing from extract and fractions of coffee leaves has been done. This study aims to determine the SPF value of extracts, fractions, and lotion from coffee leaves and to do evaluation of the lotion. The method was used to determining SPF value was spectrophotometry UV-Vis. The SPF value of 70% ethanol extract at concentrations of 50, 100, and 150 ppm were
2,854; 5,321; and 7,544 respectively; the SPF value of n-hexane fraction at concentrations of 50, 100, and 100 ppm were 1.519; 2,560; and 3,294 respectively; the SPF value of ethyl acetate fraction at concentrations of 50, 100, and 150 ppm were 6,146; 15,035; and 22,383 respectively; the SPF value of ethanol-water fraction at concentrations of 50, 100, and 150 ppm were 3,048; 5,498; and 7,801 respectively. The lotion preparation was made using extract or fraction who had the greatest SPF value, namely ethyl acetate fraction at 150 ppm. The SPF value of F0
was 0,765; the SPF value of F1 (0,03%) was 9,865 and the SPF value of the F2 (0,045%) was 14,389. In organoleptic test, the colour of F0 was milky white, F1 was light cream, and F2 was cream with a thick texture and distinctive aroma from lotion base for all formulas. All formulas were homogeneous and have qualified for spreadability, stickiness, and pH tests. The irritation test results for all formulas did not show the signs of irritation. The results of the hedonic test of formula 1 have slightly preferred color, slightly preferred texture, and neutral color, while formula 2
has neutral color, slightly preferred texture, and neutral aroma. Based on the results of the study, the ethyl acetate fraction of sunscreen lotion is deserve to be formulated because it had a maximum category of SPF value and qualified all evaluations.
