Abstract. Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the horticultural commodities that have high economic value in Indonesia. Chili can also be a source of industrial raw materials, and has export opportunities. The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of some mutant strains of chili generation M3. There are different levels of salinity stress on viability and vigor as well as vegetative plants, and the interaction between the two factors. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Science and Technology and Screening House, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh from June to August 2021. This experiment was arranged using a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern consisting of 2 factors and 3 replications. There were 2 factors studied, the first factor was the M3 generation local chili mutant line which consisted of 5 levels, namely as a control using the Odeng variety and the M3 O10 D1-5, M3 O7 D2-39, M3 O9 D3-9, M3 O9 D3- 34. The second factor is the concentration of NaCl in the growing media which consists of 4 levels, namely 0 ppm, 5000 ppm, 7,500 ppm, 10,000 ppm. The results showed that chili mutant lines had a very significant effect on seed viability and vigor on benchmarks for germination, growth synchronously, relative growth speed and vigor index, and had a significant effect on growth potential. The vegetative growth had a very significant effect on measuring plant height 7, 14, 21 and 28 DAP, number of leaves 7,14,21 and 28 DAP, root length, fresh root weight, fresh crown weight, dry root weight and dry crown weight, and significantly affected the weight of fresh roots. The best chili mutant line was found in the G3 mutant line. NaCl concentration had a very significant effect on all measures of viability and vigor of seeds as well as on measures of plant vegetative growth. There are no chili mutant lines that are tolerant to salinity stress, where the NaCl concentration of 7.81 ds/m is a critical point of salinity stress for the G1, G2, G3 and G4 mutant lines. There was an interaction between the strain and NaCl concentration which had a very significant effect on the viability and vigor parameters of seeds on the benchmark for germination, growth synchronously, relative growth speed and vigor index. And the vegetative growth parameters had a significant effect on the number of leaves at 21 DAP and fresh crown weight. The best combination was found in the O9 D3-9 (G3) line with treatment without NaCl on the benchmarks of germination, growth synchronously, relative growth speed, vigor index, number of leaves 21 DAP and fresh crown weight.
