This study aims to examine the role of single parents in improving family welfare in the village of Cot Tarom Tunong, Jeumpa, Bireuen district in the economic aspect. To analyze this phenomenon, in this study the author uses the Mystical Feminine Theory by Betty Friedan. This study uses qualitative research methods with narrative analysis. Based on the discussion found in this study, single parents in Cot Tarom Tunong village experienced several conditions mentioned by Friedan, including the American women, the happy women and the new women. Then they also experience stages in the type of woman, namely passive identity, the forfeited self and intelligence. In this case, there are differences in the efforts made by single mothers according to the type and condition of women in Cot Tarom Tunong Village in improving welfare. For those who initially have the forfeited self type will look for work that does not require skills and education, the income obtained is only for consumptive purposes, and the forfeited self type women in this study are women who are still on government assistance, they cannot be said to be able to afford it. stand alone in the welfare of his family. For them, women are the type of intelligence and not as women who don't do it, they will fulfill their needs, because basically they are educated career women. As for intelligent women who are not/educated, they will find it difficult to fulfill their daily needs.
