This study is entitled "The Influence of Clustering Technique on Students Writing Descriptive Text (An Experiment Study for the First Year Students at SMA Negeri 8 Banda Aceh". The purpose of this study is whether the use of clustering technique can improve the students' ability in descriptive writing or not. The method which is used in this study was experiment quantitative research. The population of this study was aII of the first year students at SMA Negeri 8
Banda Aceh in 2011/2012, and the sample was one class as experimental group.
The sample of this study was chosen by using random sampling. There was class X-2 as sample, which consisted of 25 students.The test was used as the instrument. There were two tests; pre-test and post-test. The result of the test found that there was significant different of the students' ability in writing descriptive text between pre-test and post-test after teaching by using clustering technique. To prove the hypothesis, the writer used t-score formula. Based on data analysis t-score is 2.27, meanwhile t-table is 2.064. It means t-score is higher than t-table, therefore the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The writer concluded that teaching descriptive writing by using clustering technique gave better influence to the students' ability in the rating scale of writing; organization, logical development of idea, grammar, mechanic, style and quality of expression.
