The objective of this study is to look at some given theories and/or research findings on the use of Communicative Approach for teaching speaking skill. The discussion of the approach is focused on one of techniques in Communicative Approach, namely information gap. Communicative Approach is use to encourage students ability in speaking skill. The study found that using information gap can make the students study language as they are in real life. The students have also chance to be active and cooperative in speaking activity. Besides, Information gap activities can maximize students' opportunities to speak during the English lesson. It also found that the students are highly motivated to learn language. The method used in this study is Library research. Based on the research findings and experts' statements, it is found that Communicative Approach is effective to improve the students' speaking skill. This study is expected to be useful for English teachers.
