This thesis is under the title of Using STAD ( Student Team Achievement Division ) in Teaching Writing for Junior High School". STAD. one of the teaching Approaches under the scope of Cooperative Learning Method. can help students in learning and solving their problem in writing text since this approach encourage students' motivation by providing them with rewards. The study aims at finding out the effectiveness of using STAD in improving students' motivation and ability in writing. To obtain the data, the writer conducted a library study and testing at SMP FATIH BILINGUAL SCHOOL PUTRA Banda Aceh. The first grade students were taken as the subject of this approach. In short. it is proved that the using of STAD is effective to improve students' ability in writing Descriptive text and increase students writing motivation.
