Title : The use of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) in teaching Reading to Junior High School Students.


This study is focused on the use of Contextual Teaching and Leaming {CTL) in teaching reading to junior high school students. The purpose of this study is to know the use of Contextual Teaching and Leaming to junior high school students. According to Johnson (2002: 3) "Contextual Teaching and Learning engages students in significant activities that help them connect academic studies to their context in real life situation". The problem of this study are : I) The students got the difficulty in understanding text because the student did not have sufficient vocabulary to find main idea, 2) The teaching method were less interesting, so the students were bored and the students did not have motivation in reading. The methodology that is used in this study is library research. It means, the data was collected from books, electronic books, thesis and internet. It is in form of theories, statement and reviews. Contextual Teaching and Leaming method can make students easy to understand the subject, actived, motivated and interested in learning process, because the students study from their experience in their life. Therefore, Contextual Teaching and Leaming is an appropriate method in teaching reading.
