Thesis Title : The Application of Communicative Approach in Teaching
Speaking for Junior High School Students

The objective of this study is to look at some given theories and/or research findings on the use of communicative approach for teaching speaking skill. The discussion of the approach is focused on a particular technique under the communicative approach, namely information gap. The study found that using information gap can facilitate the students exchange their ideas and/or information in a useful manner. Besides, each student has equal opportunity to speak or practice the language. It also found that the students are highly motivated and pleased to learn the language in many aspects of language. The method used in this study is library research. Readings obtained from various are processed and described in a descriptive way. Based on the research findings and experts' statements, it is found that communicative approach is effective to enhance the students' speaking skill. This study is expected to be useful for other English teachers.
