Title : The Use of Total Physical Response (TPR) Method in
Teaching English Vocabulary to Young Learners.

This study is focused on teaching English vocabulary to young learners by using
Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The purpose of this study is to know
whether the use of TPR method can increase students’ ability in mastering English
vocabulary. The kind of this research is quantitative research by using
experimental approach with pre-experimental design type of pre-test and post-test.
The population of this research is all the students of SDN 19 Banda Aceh. The
researcher took grade IV as the sample by using purposive sampling. The
instrument used to collect the data was test. The test was analyzed by using t-
score formula. It is found that the mean score of pre-test is 43.5 while post-test is
68.81 and the value of T-score is 3.005. The critical value of T-table at the level
significant 5% (0, 05) is 2.13 and at the level significant 1% (0, 01) is 2.95 with
the degree of freedom 15. It is concluded that the obtained t-test score higher that
t-table value (3.005 > 2.13/2.95) so that alternate hypothesis (ha) is accepted and
null hypothesis (ho) is rejected. It means that Total Physical Response Method can
help the students in learning English Vocabulary.
