Name : Raudhatul Jannah Student Number : 0606 102050091 Major of Study : Teacher Training and Education of English Title : The lmpact of Think-Aloud Technique Application toward the Students' Reading Performance (An Experimental Study at the Second Year Students of MAS Ruhul Islam Anak Bangsa Aceh Besar) This study is aimed at finding out whether teaching reading through Think• Aloud Technique can give significant impact on the students' reading performance of senior high school students. The writer hypothesized that using Think-Aloud technique gives significant impact on the students' reading performance (Ha). The population of this study was the second grade student of Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Ruhul Islam Anak Bangsa, Aceh Besar. The writer took one class of Madrasah Aliyah Keaga.maan (MAK) class consisting of 26 students as the sample with one group pre test and post test design in her experiment. The genre of the text in pre test and post test was narrative consisting of 20 multiple choice questions. There were five meetings in this study. There was improvement resulted from the treatment. The students showed their confidence in expressing their idea. Besides, the score obtained by the students increased by comparing between the pre- test and the post- test scores which gives significant difference of the result. The mean of the pre- test and post- test scores were 65.38 and 76.73. When the two means are compared, the mean of the post- test is higher than that in the pre- test. This means the students' progress in reading performance and understanding the reading text given using Think-Aloud Technique during the teaching learning activity increased. The students' achievement in understanding the reading text also improved. This was proved by the t-score result which reveals that the obtained value (3.875) is higher than the table value (2.060) at the t-table at level significance 0,05% with the degree of freedom (df) 25. So the alternative hypothesis that stating the significant impact on students reading performance after they are taught by using Think-Aloud technique is accepted.
