Abstrak/Catatan

Key words: Teaching Vocabulary, young learners, cartoon movie. This thesis is entitled "Teaching Vocabulary for Young Learners through Cartoon Movie". The dependent variable of this thesis is teaching vocabulary, while the independent variable is cartoon movie. This thesis was conducted to generate the question whether cartoon movie can increase young learners' vocabulary achievement or not. The method used is quantitative method which is called experimental study in nature. The research was implemented at SDN Dham Lubuk, Aceh Besar. The writer chooses the sample based on purposes sampling technique, and the subject of this research was 20 students from grade five. To gain the data needed, the writer did experimental teaching at the school. She taught experimental class for six meetings. Besides, the writer gave tests namely; pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was given in the first meeting and post-test at the last meeting. The mean score of pre-test was 50 and the mean score of post --test was 86. The result oft-score was 4, 05. The critical value oft-table at the level of significant 5% with the degree of freedom (d) 19 was 2, 093. Thus, we can see that the t-score was higher than the t- table. It means that the difference was significant So, the alternative hypothesis which stated that cartoon movie can increase young learners' vocabulary achievement was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. The writer concluded that teaching vocabulary for young learners through cartoon movie could increase their vocabulary achievement and audiovisual material made students more easily pronounce and utilize the words in good sentences.
