Name : Zahratur Rizki Student's Number : 0606102050004 Study Program : English Education Script Tittle : The Process of Teaching and Leaming English in Acceleration Class (A Descriptive Qualitative Research at SMAN 3 Banda Aceh) The objectives of this study are to describe the process of teaching and learning English and the obstacles face by teacher and students in the process of teaching and learning English in acceleration class at SMAN 3 Banda Aceh. The design of this study is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects are an English teacher and the students of acceleration class program. The students are in the first year of their study in 2010/2011 academic year. This study used some instruments: observation, field note, interviews, questionnaire, and documents. The findings are classified into two categories. They are the process of teaching and learning English in acceleration class and the obstacles face by teacher and students in the process of teaching and learning English in acceleration class. From the findings, the writer found that, the teacher used Communicative Language Teaching and authentic materials in the teaching and learning process. The materials used not only from textbooks but also some additional material s taken from newspapers, magazines, and internet websites. The situation in the classroo m was active and interacti ve. The students had good understanding in achieving learning materials. Besides that, the students also face some obstacles, such as a lot of materials should be finished, lack of opportunity, unclear teacher's explanation and lots of assessment. Based on the findings, some suggestions are given to increase the quality of acceleration class program at SMAN 3 Banda Aceh. It is suggested that that the teacher has to pay more attention about teaching methodologies. It should be appropriate between lesson plan and realizati on in the classroom. This is done to make the students get clear explanation and understanding materials well.
