This thesis is focus on the using of mind map to improve students' speaking skill in storytelling. Mind map is one of teaching media that can solve students' problem in organizing their idea then help them to perform the idea by imagine the map/concept instead of memorize the information linearly. The population of this research is the second grade students of SMAN 11 Banda Aceh. The writer selected two classes purposively from 6 classes and took 56 students as the sample (28 students from each class). The method applied in this study was experimental quantitative method, using pretest and posttest as the instrument. To process the data, the writer used t-score. The result of the posttest showed that the mean score of the experimental group is 15,42 and the control group is 10,78 and the t-score is 3,26. The critical value oft• table at the level significant 0,05 is 2,01 and at the level of significant 0,01 is 2,68 with the degree of freedom is 54. The result oft-test is higher than t-table, it indicates that there is a significant difference in the experimental group between pretest and post test, therefore, it proves the hypothesis which is the using of mind map can improve students' speaking skill in storytelling. Moreover, Mind Map was a better teaching media than other outline media in improving students' speaking skill of second grade students at SMA 11 Banda Aceh.
