Abstrak/Catatan

This study is mntended to know some obstacles faced by the students of SMA Negeri I Meukek in learning English. The purpose of this research is to know whether the students are interested in studying English. if the teaching media is available for the students and also to know how the English teaching learning process in the classroom is done. The population of this study is the entire students of SMA Negeri I Meukek, I50 students were taken as samples of this study. The data in this study were collected from April 27-29, 2006. The metnoa applied in this study is descriptive analysis. The instruments used are observation sheet questionnaire for students and interview for teachers. Questionnaire was analyzed to get percentage, interview and observation were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative. The result proves that the students are interested in studying tngsh. However, the students have the obstacles in learning English such as, the school of SMA Negeri I Meukek lacks of media; there is no book at all (66.7%), there is no language laboratory at school (100%), there is no tape recorder in teaching listening (66. 7%) and the teacher does not use picture in teaching (100%), while I 00% proves that the school of SMA Negeri 1 Meukek lacks of English teachers in conducting the English teaching learning process, and the school also has no librarian ( I 00%).
