The title of this study is "Factors which Motivate SMA Students to Enter FKIP English Department Syiah Kuala University" (A Case Study at SMA N 10 Fajar Harapan, Banda Aceh). Motivation plays one of the most important aspects to good academic achievement lf student learn with low motivation, he or she will get low score. In fact, motivation can determine a student's success in learning. Motivation de.rives from different sources, such as the student himself, parents, teachers and peers. In this study, the writer presents some individual motives to enter their study to English department. The objective of this study is to find out the motivations of SMA N 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh in choosing FKIP English Department UNSYIAH. The significance of this study can be taken into consideration as main information for the stakeholders of education in deciding future action to make SMA graduates interested in continuing their study English Department FKIP UNSYIAH. The population of this research is the third year students of SMA N 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh. The writer took the sample from one class which consisted of 28 students. In this research, the writer used descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. In collecting the data, the writer used questionnaires, observations and interviews. The questionnaires were about motivations of students to continue their study at Syiah Kuala University and choose FKIP English department. The writer observed teaching and learning process and the situation of the school. Interview was used to find out further aspects the influence the students' motivation in choosing English Department. The result shows that students of SMA N 10 Fajar Harapan have high motivation in learning English; it is about 23 respondents (82%) and then, no students wanted to enter their study to FKIP English department of Syiah Kuala University. Among 28 respondents, 17 of them (61%) answered "no" 11 respondents (39%) answered "not really sure". So, based on the questionnaire, observation and interview could be concluded that the third year students of SMA N 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh of IPA program (Department of Science) have motivation to study at Syiah Kuala University, but they do not positively enter English department.
