This study focuses on the investigation of the influence of direct language learning strategy towards students' motivation in learning English. In other words, this study was conducted to investigate whether students who used direct language learning strategy well are them who having good motivation in learning English as foreign language. IL is conducted with purpose to promote meaning based and systematic learning English more effectively to the students of English department, suggesting the English lecturers or teachers that knowing earlier their students language learning strategies and motivation will help them to prepare appropriate learning material based on student's need. The method used in conducting this research was descriptive quantitative method. The population of this study were all students of English Department who have passed the listening, reading, speaking and writing courses from level I up to level UL Whereas, the sample of this study were 30 students. The data were acquired from two sets of questionnaires. First was Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire used to find out students' direct language learning strategy. Second was Motivational Element Questionnaire used for indicating their motivation level in learning English. The result scores of both was calculated and tabulated to identify the rank order, as the formula used for data analysis was Spearman rank-order correlation. It was used to get the correlation value between research variables. The result indicates that the correlation between direct language learning strategy instruction and students' motivation was significant with the correlation value of 0,5 which is high. In conclusion that direct LLS used has significant correlation to students' motivation. The more the students used the Language Learning Strategy in their language learning process was the higher their motivation would be.
