Abstrak/Catatan

The purpose of this research is to investigate students’ perspective in using electronic dictionaries in learning English. The subjects are the students in English Education Department of Syiah Kuala University who are in semester 6 to semester 12. However, only those who filled the questionnaire were taken as sample in this research and 10 students were selected to be interviewed. Meanwhile, the object of this research is focused on the students’ perception in using electronic dictionaries in learning English. This is a qualitative research using questionnaire and interview as the method. The questionnaire distributed was developed from theory proposed by Metruk (2017), Zheng and Whang (2016), Nesi (2009), Alhaisoni (2016), Dashtestani (2016), Amirian and Heshamatifar (2018), and Rezaei & Davoudi (2016). The result of the study shows that the students have a positive attitude toward the use of electronic dictionaries. The findings reveal that although electronic dictionaries provide some benefits to improve vocabulary learning, but there are also some obstacles like a number of advertisements in some electronic dictionaries made students uncomfortable in accessing the electronic dictionaries, the vocabularies in electronic dictionaries are incomplete and eye health issue made some students could not be able to see their smartphone scree for a long time.
