The objective of this study is to explore the use of information gap based on communicative approach in teaching speaking skill based on theories, statements or research findings. The researcher uses the library research method to conduct this study. The result shows that information gap can be used in teaching English speaking to give solution for the students who get problem in speaking, especially in finding and explaining the idea. It can also facilitate the students to exchange their ideas and information in a useful manner. Besides, each student has equal opportunity to speak or practice the language. It is also found that the students are highly motivated and pleased to learn the language in many aspects of language. Based on the research findings and experts’ statements, it is found that information gap is effective to enhance the students’ speaking skill. This study is expected to be useful for other English teachers.
