Special needs education teacher is one of the professions that specializes in dealing with the students with special needs. In carrying out their tasks, the teacherstend to be stress, for example whenthe teacher is dealing with the changes of behavior in children with special needs. The solution to reducing the stress in a teacher is by having an adaptive coping mechanism. This research aims to identify the correlation of the level of stress with the teacher coping mechanism in dealing with the special needs students in School for Special Needs in Banda Aceh. The type of this research is quantitative, exactly the correlative descriptive with a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique is purposive sampling with the sample is 52 teachers in School for Special Needs in Banda Aceh. The data were collected with distributing a questionnaire of Perceived Stress Scale and Brief Cope. The data analysis method is using a Chi-square analysis. The result from the research shows that there is a correlation between the level of stress with the teacher coping mechanism in dealing with the special needs students in School for Special Needs in Banda Aceh (p Value 0.005 < 0.05). Based on the result of the research, the teachers are recommended to develop an adaptive coping behavior when facing a stressful job environment to avoid the stress problem.
