Keywords:Descriptive text, Writing, Errors. This research focused on analysis the cause of error in descriptive writing made by second grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ingin Jaya, Aceh Besar. It is also to find out the solutions taken to overcome descriptive writing problems. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The sample of this study are students in class VIII-A, and an English teacher who teach in class VIII-A. This study used documentation and interview as instruments. The researcher collected data twice, the result of the first document collection showed that the highest cause of errors is carelessness (65, 31 %) and the lowest is translation (13,16%) while in the second document collection showed the highest cause of error is carelessness (64,71%) and the lowest is first language interference (14,71%). The result of interview was taken from students is some of students have problem in using verb, adjective and error in mechanics. The teacher’s solution is the students must learning continuously about the material that is not understood then a lot of practice to increase the writing skill to avoid errors in descriptive writing.
