Abstract Name : Naziratun Ulfa Student No. : 1406102020035 Department/Program : English Education/Undergraduate Title : Analysis of Speech Acts of Dilan’s Character in Novel “Dilan Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990” by Pidi Baiq Keywords: Speech Acts, Types of Illocutionary Acts, Perlocutionary Acts, Novel This research is a pragmatic study on speech acts regarding to the types of illocutionary acts based on Searle’s classification and perlocutionary acts performed by Dilan as the main character in the “Dilan Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990” novel. This research aims at identifying and describing the types of illocutionary act and perlocutionary act by one of the main character, Dilan in the novel. This research used a qualitative method. The subject of this research was the “Dilan Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990” novel and the Dilan’s utterances as the object. The data were in form of description because this research is the descriptive study. The findings of this research shows that there are five types of illocutionary act found in the novel. They are assertives, directives, commisives, expressives and declaratives. The assertives type is the dominant used by Dilan rather than the other types. In the term of perlocutionary act, the effect from Dilan utterances tend to persuade his hearers, impress, encourage, convince, amuse, intimidate, inform and surprise them. However, persuading the hearers happens to be the dominant effect which occur based on Dilan’s utterances. All the data were determined by the context of situation. It is suggested that this study can broaden the context of linguistics especially pragmatics study. As further recommendation, it is best to figure out the different text or discourse to implement speech acts concepts.
