Title : The Use of STAD in Teaching Reading for Junior High School Students

This study is aimed at elaborating and discussing the use of cooperative learning through STAD in teaching reading. In many cases, teachers who teach the techniques seem monotonous make students more tired so did not understand the lesson. Therefore, a cooperative instruction, such as STAD, is proposed to encourage each student to take part in reading activity. The study is conducted by means of library research. Reviews of the study focus on the entire literature which includes education research and related theories that provide strong advocacy for STAD application so as to improve reading skills. The study also proposed a number of recommendations and a lesson plan demonstration when using STAD technique in reading skill. The conclusion drawn from this study is teaching reading through STAD technique is a successful way to promote student’s achievement, participation as well as a useful technique for struggle readers to accomplish learning tasks in the classroom.
