Abstract Name : Cut Salwa Hanum Student No. : 0806102050022 Study Program : English Education Title : The Implementation of Think Pair Share Technique in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text (An Experimental Study at the First Year Students of MAN Kuta Baro) Keywords: Writing, Descriptive Text, Think Pair Share Among four English skills, writing is the most complex one involving many aspects of language and activities. For instance, the ability to find, generate, and revise ideas, to use the proper and correct grammar, etc. All these become a challenge for teacher since Indonesia is a non English speaking country. Therefore, using the right technique to teach writing is very important to overcome the problem. Think pair share as a part of cooperative learning method is believed can improve students’ writing activity. That is why the writer conducted an experimental research toward the class XA of MAN Kuta Baro to find out whether or not the technique can facilitate and improve students’ writing. The result shows that Think Pair Share technique successfully improves students’ ability in writing reflected in the posttest score covering all writing aspects. The progress before and after the technique was implemented can be seen in these average score details: content increased from 12.14 to 15.71, organization 10.71 to 15, vocabulary 9.28 to13.21, grammar 7.85 to 10, and mechanic 8.21 to 10.71 with the improvement for each aspect was 3.21, 4.29, 3.93, 2.15, 2.5. In line with this result, it can be concluded that using TPS technique can overcome students’ problem and increase their ability in writing. Therefore, the writer suggests English teachers or the readers to apply the technique to teach writing, hence the students’ problems in writing can be solved and more importantly they can improve their ability.
