This study is written under the title The Use of Collaborative Strategic Reading in Teaching Reading Comprehension. This study intended (1) to know whether the students who were taught reading by using collaborative strategic reading (CSR) achieve better result than those who were taught reading by using teacher-led reading approach, (2) to know the students’ responses toward the teaching of reading by using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR). The method used in this study was an experimental research which is referred to true experimental design through tests and a questionnaire as instruments in collecting the data. The samples of this study were 32 students as the experimental group and 35 students as the control group. The result of the quantitative data analysis can be seen from the result of the post-test for each group in which the mean of the post-test scores of the experimental group is 80.06 while the mean of the post-test scores of the control group is 74.43. Furthermore, the Z-score between the experimental group and control group in the post-test is 2.37 at the level significance of 5% (0.05). In other words, it indicates that the students who were taught reading by using CSR achieved better result in reading comprehension than those who were taught by using teacher-led reading approach. The analysis of questionnaire data also show that the students gave positive responses in related to CSR instruction, CSR procedure and the impact of CSR on their ability in reading. Finally, it can be inferred that CSR is an effective strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the first year students of MAN MODEL Banda Aceh. ABSTRAK Rini Susiani, 2015. Dengan tujuan (1) untuk mengetahui apakah siswa yang diajar reading menggunakan Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) mendapatkan hasil yang lebih baik dibandingkan siswa yang diajar reading menggunakan teacher-led reading approach, (2) untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran reading menggunakan Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah experiment yang mengacu pada true experimental design yang terdiri dari tes dan kuestioner sebagai instrument dalam pengumpulan data. Sample penelitian 32 siswa untuk kelompok experiment dan 35 siswa untuk kelompok kontrol. Hasil analisis data kuantitaf dapat dilihat dari post-test masing- masing group dimana nilai rata-rata kelompok experimental adalah 80.06 sedangkan nilai rata-rata kelompok kontrol adalah 74.43. Kemudian, nilai Z-score antara kelompok experimen dan kelompok kontrol adalah 2.37 dengan taraf signifikan 5% (0.05). Dengan demikian, nilai Z-Score (2.37). Dengan kata lain, siswa yang diajar menggunakan CSR mendapat hasil yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajar menggunakan teacher-led reading approach. Analisa kuestioner juga menunjukkan bahwa siswa member respon yang positif terkait CSR instruksi, CSR prosedur dan pengaruh CSR terhadap kemampuan membaca mereka. Terakhir dapat disimpulkan bahwa CSR adalah sebuah strategi yang efektif dalam mengajar pemahaman bacaan pada siswa kelas satu di MAN MODEL Banda Aceh.
