As one of language skills that is learned in schools in the context of teaching English as a foreign language in Indonesia, writing skill has been learned at the level of senior high school. However, for most of students writing is considered as the most difficult skill. This research was aimed at describing the difficulties in writing faced by grade XI students of SMA Negeri 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh and the efforts made by the teacher to overcome those problems. The design of this study was a descriptive qualitative study. To obtain the data, the writer used document collection and interview. The result of document collection in this study shows that the highest percentage of problem faced students was in language use aspect and the least problem was in content aspect. The result of interview showed the most common effort that the teacher did was written feedback in all writing aspects i.e. language use, mechanics, vocabulary, organization, and content.
