Tinggong is one of Aceh's local rice varieties, famous for rice texture fluffier and has good adaptability. However, Tinggong rice has high stems, easy to fall, very long growth duration and not resistant to submergence. Improvement of the Tinggong variety can be done by utilizing the Swarna-introduced variety with the advantages of short stems, early harvesting age, high production and has the semi-dwarf (sd-1) gene as a crop short gene and submergence (sub-1) gene as a submergence resistance. This research aims to determine the agronomic character of BC2F3 and BC3F2 rice progenies Tinggong and Swarna and analyzed the presence of sd-1 and sub-1 genes. This research was conducted at the Experimental Farm and Genetics and Plant Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam Banda Aceh, from December 2021 to June 2022. The seeds used were BC2F3 and BC3F2 progenies of Tinggong and Swarna. Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) technique was used to detect the presence of sd-1 and sub-1 genes. The results showed that the plant BC2F3 T41.9.6 (plants 1, 2, 4 and 6) were prospective to proceed to the next stage. Because it has an early harvesting age ranging from 117-123 DAS, plant height ranging from 113-116 cm and high yields exceeding 6 tons Ha-1 and inherit sd-1 and sub-1 genes. The results of the resistance test after the recovery period of BC2F3 and BC3F2 progenies from crosses of Tinggong and Swarna rice showed that of the 68 plants tested, 33 plants (48.52%) were alive, while 35 plants (51.47%) dead that were not resistance to submergence stress.
