Land suitability is a description of the level of suitability of a plot of land for a particular use, for example a selected commodity. Basically the land suitability class of an area depends on the type of land use being considered, where the level or class of land suitability between one type of plant and another is different according to the needs and conditions of the land desired by the type of plant. Serewangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) is one of the essential plants from the Gramineae family which is widely used in various perfumes, cosmetics, food, beverage and medicine industries. In addition, it is also used as a vegetable pesticide for controlling plant pests and diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of land suitability and to determine the distribution of Serewangi and the area of land that has the potential for the development of the Serewangi plant (Cymbopogon nardus L) in Padang Tiji District, Grong-grong District, and Batee District, Pidie District. The research methods used in this study include the matching method and the map overlay method.
The actual land suitability classes in Padang Tiji, Grong-grong and Batee sub-districts, Pidie district, are actually S2, S3 and N with the most dominant limiting factors being soil chemistry and steep slopes. After improvements have been made, potentially the land suitability of the Serewangi development in the area becomes quite suitable (S2) and marginally suitable (S3), namely by working on the slope limiting factor sample, it can be improved by adjusting the spacing and planting to follow the contour, on the physical properties it cannot be improvements were made while the chemical properties of the soil could be improved by applying organic fertilizers. The total area that can be developed by Serewangi in the three sub-districts is 6,706.30 ha of cultivated area. Padang Tiji District can develop Serewangi area of 4,913.14 ha, while Grong-grong District can develop Serewangi area of 287.63 ha, and for Batee District Serewangi can be developed covering an area of 1,505.53 ha.
