ernyataan saya ini tidak benar. banda aceh, 19 september 2017 sepri kurniadi abstract nama : sepri kurniadi student no : 1209200080053 study program : master degree in english education departement : english education title : the use of think-aloud strategy in teaching reading (an experimental study to the 11th grade students of sma laboratorium unsyiah, banda aceh) keywords: think-aloud strategy, teaching reading, reading skills, metacognitive awareness. one of the english language skills should be mastered by senior high students in indonesia is reading skill. this research aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using think-aloud strategy in teaching reading. it also investigates the studentsí responses toward the implementation of think-aloud strategy in teaching reading.the quasi experimental design with pre and posttests was used in this research. two classes of second grade students of sma labschool banda aceh were chosen as the sample of the research with random sampling technique. the two classes were homogenous in nature. it can be chosen freely to be given the treatment. each group consists of 25 students in experimental and control classes.the reading test (pre and posttest) and questionnaire were used as the instruments of the research. the data collected were analyzed using descriptive statitic through spss 20.the results found that the use of think-aloud strategy improved studentsí reading scores and the students also gave positive response toward the use of the strategy in teaching reading. therefore, the hypotheses of this research are accepted. it means that the use of think aloud strategy improved studentsí reading score significantly as compared with the students who were not taught by using the strategy. students also gave positive response to the implementaion of the strategy in teaching reading. it can be concluded that the use of this strategy improved the second grade studentsí reading achievement significantly.
