This study was intended to investigate the contribution between the students who studied english at the elementary school and those who did not study english in mastering reading comprehension at junior high school the samples of the study were the first year students of sltp 8 banda aceh there were 33 students who studied english at the elementary school and 19 students those who did not study english. they were given 100 test items related to reading comprehension. after calculating the data, it was found that the mean score of the students who studied english at the elementary school was 46 with the standard deviation was 17.17 while the mean score of the students those who did not study english was 26.2 with its standard deviation was 14.1 furthermore, t-score was used to analyze the significance between the two means at 0.0 i level of significance, the result was 19.6075. since the t-score is higher than 2.660 (t-table), it shows that there is a significance contribution between the students who studied english at the elementary school and those who did not study it finally, the data shows that, the students who studied english at the elementary school their performance are better in reading comprehension
