ABSTRACT Nurul Amalia, 2013 : Error Analysis of Students’ Writing on Recount Text at the Second Year Students of SMA Negeri 2 Banda Aceh. Thesis Graduate Program in English Language Education Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam Banda Aceh. Advisor (I) Dr. Usman Kasim M.Ed (II) Dr. Sofyan A. Gani M.A Key Words : Types of errors, cause of errors, analysis, recount text, interlingual interference, and intralingual interference, writing. The objective of the study was to investigate the types of errors made by students in writing recount text, the dominant errors, the cause of the errors, the students’ problem in writing recount text and the teacher’s attempt in minimizing students’ error in writing recount text. The population was the eleventh year students of SMU Negeri 2 Banda Aceh, and the sample was the students of XI IA1 class. To obtain the data, the writer conducted a research by analyzing the students’ writing and analyzing questionnaires. The data were students’ writing of recount text to find out the types of errors made by them. The questionnaires were distributed to students to find out the students’ problems in writing recount and to the teacher to know her attempts in minimizing students’ error in writing recount. Based on the finding, there were some errors: omission errors, addition errors, misformation errors, and misordering errors. From the data it showed that the students made a total of 250 errors which consist of 50 or 20% in omission errors, 45 or 18% errors in addition errors, 140 or 56% errors in misformation errors, and 15 or 6% errors in misordering errors. From those errors, misformation errors were the highest percentage of errors in this study and it was the dominant error. In terms of findings based on text organization and language features, even though most of the students were aware in text organization of recount, such as orientation, sequence of events, and reorientation, they still had not mastered language features yet, especially in the use of past tense, the use of first person pronouns, and the use of appropriate action verbs. It could be seen from the number of the errors made. Although they had been taught about it, they were still confused when writing a sentence. This study concluded that the errors occurred due to an interaction of interlingual and intralingual factors. The above findings show that the students of XI IA1 class still have problems in writing eventhough the teacher have explained the recount text material along with its linguistics features and do some attempts in minimizing the error made by the students. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji bentuk-bentuk kesalahan, kesalahan yang dominan, penyebab kesalahan, masalah siswa dalam menulis teks recount, usaha-usaha guru dalam meminimalisir kesalahan-kesalahan siswa dalam menulis teks recount. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI di SMU Negeri 2 Banda Aceh, dan sampelnya adalah siswa kelas XI IA1. Untuk memperoleh data, peneliti melakukan penelitian dengan menganalisa tulisan recount siswa dan membagikan kuesioner. Data tersebut berupa teks recount yang ditulis oleh siswa. Kuesioner tersebut dibagikan kepada siswa-siswa guna mengetahui kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa dalam menulis teks recount dan kepada guru guna mengetahui usaha-usaha guru tersebut dalam mengurangi kesalahan-kesalahan yang dibuat oleh iswa dalam menulis teks recount. Berdasarkan hasil analisa, didapatkan beberapa bentuk kesalahan-kesalahan: omission error, addition error, misformation error dan misordering error. dari data ditunjukkan bahwa siswa melakukan kesalahan sebanyak 250 kesalahan yang terdiri dari 50 kesalahan omission error atau 20% siswa, 45 kesalahan addition error atau 18% siswa, 140 kesalahan misformation error atau 56% siswa, dan 15 kesalahan misordering error atau 6% siswa. Dari kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut, misformation error merupakan kesalahan yang dominan dilakukan oleh siswa. Hasil yang didapat berdasarkan teks organisasi dan fitur linguistic, walaupun kebanyakan siswa mengetahui cara penulisan dan pengaturan teks dalam teks recount seperti orientasi, rangkaian kejadian, dan reorientasi, mereka masih tidak menguasai fitur-fitur linguistic secara baik, khususnya penggunaan past tense, penggunaan kata ganti orang pertama, dan penggunaan kata kerja yang sesuai. Hal ini bias dilihat dari jumlah kesalahan yang mereka perbuat. Walaupun mereka telah diajari mengenai hal ini, tetapi mereka masih bingung dalam menulis kalimat-kalimat yang baik dan benar berdasarkan struktur kata. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kesalahan-kesalahan yang terjadi dikarenakan pengaruh struktur bahasa ibu dan pengaruh struktur bahasa target. Hasil temuan diatas menunjukkan bahwa siswa-siswa kelas XI IA1 masih memiliki masalah dalam menulis walau guru telah menjelaskan materi bahan ajar tentang teks recount bersama dengan fitur-fitur linguistiknya dan guru juga telah berupaya untuk meminimalisir kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa.
