Abstract Name : Jehan Maisarah Student No. : 0906102050029 Study Program : English Education Title : Improving Students’ Ability in Writing Recount Text Through Guided Writing (An Experimental Study of Second Grade Students at SMPN 7 Banda Aceh) Keywords: Writing Skill, Guided Writing, Recount Text This study aims at examining whether the implementation of guided writing improves students’ ability in writing recount text or not. The population of this study is second grade students at SMPN 7 Banda Aceh, while the sample of this study is VIII-3 class which is consisted of 23 students. Quantitative approach with experimental study of one group pre-test post-test design is undertaken to overcome the problems faced by the students in learning writing skill. This study is focused on improving students’ ability in writing recount text in the aspects of organization, content, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics.The instrument used to collect the data in this study was test. The collected data are analyzed by using statistical formula as suggested by Arikunto (2006). The finding showed that there is a better improvement on students’ writing ability after guided writing implemented. The mean score of pre-test is 54.7 and the mean score of post test 79.8. The result proves that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In addition, guided writing technique improves students’ writing skill better in the aspect of organization, content, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics. Therefore, the writer concludes that teaching writing recount text by using guided writing technique give good effect for students’ ability in writing aspects; organization, content, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics.
