Abstract Name : Fajrinur Student No. : 0706102020037 Study Program : English Language Education Title : The Overview of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) in Teaching and Learning English for Elementary School Level Keywords: Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL), vocabulary, This study is intended to describe Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) in the teaching and learning process of English lesson for elementary school students in terms of improving vocabulary. The method of this study is library research. In collecting the relevant data, the writer collected some books, scripts, journals, and past research findings. The collected data were then, read and summarized in order to be more detail and focus on the topic of this study. To analyze the data collected, the descriptive qualitative was used. Based on previous researches, it found that Contextual Teaching and Learning can enhance elementary school students’ vocabulary. A previous study conducted by Dewi (2010) found that the application of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) in the speaking and learning improved their vocabulary. Another previous study conducted by Ernawati (2011) reported that that student have a good progress in mastering vocabulary and become more motivated in CTL class. It can be concluded that Contextual Teaching Learning was very helpful and meaningful in teaching and learning English for elementary school students.
