ABSTRACT Name : Cut MuliaZuhra Student Number : 1309200080057 Jurusan/ Strata : MPBEN/ S2 Title : The Effectiveness of Using Reciprocal Scaffolding on Students’ Writing Skill (An Experimental Research at the second grade students of State Junior High School 1 Kutamakmur). Keywords: Writing Skill and Reciprocal Scaffolding, Technique The objectives of this research were to investigate the effectiveness of using Reciprocal Scaffolding technique on students’ writing skill and the students’ responses toward the implementation of the technique in the teaching and learning process at the second year student of state junior high school 1 (SJHS 1) Kutamakmur, North Aceh. The population of the research was all four classes of the eighth grades of SJHS 1 Kutamakmur. The samples of the research were taken two customize classes from the population by using random sampling technique. Each class consists of 26 students. The experimental group was VIII/b and the Control group was VIII/d, and total of the sample was 52 students. The data of this research were collected by giving test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 17 to find t-test score between the two groups. From the statistical result, it is found the mean score of Control Group in the pre-test is 50.15which is lower than the mean score of Experimental group pre-test 51.69. While the statistical result of Experimental and control group post-test shows the mean score of Experimental group was 70.88 which is higher than Control group 58.34. The significance value of the group and control group in the post test were 0.00 which is lower than 0.05. It means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that teaching writing by using reciprocal scaffolding technique is more effective to improve students’ writing skill than teaching writing without using reciprocal scaffolding technique. Furthermore, to know the students’ response toward the use of Reciprocal Scaffolding in teaching writing skill, a set of questionnaire which is contained of 15 statements was given for 26 students at experimental group.The results of questionnaires revealed that the students gave positive responses toward to the use of reciprocal scaffolding technique in teaching writing skill. . Kata Kunci: KeterampilanMenulisdan Reciprocal Scaffolding Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas teknik reciprocal scaffolding didalam pengajaran writing dan juga untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap penggunaan teknik Reciprocal Scaffolding kepada siswa Kelas VIII SMPN 1 Kutamakmur). Ini merupakan sebuah penelitian experiment. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMPN 1 Kutamakmur yang terdiri dari empat kelas.Dua kelas terpilih sebagai sampel penelitian yaitu kelas VIII/b sebagai kelas experiment dankelas VIII/d sebagaikelaskontrol. Setiapkelasterdiridari 26 orang siswa. Dan total sample keseluruhan adalah 52 orang. Pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik random sampling. Ada 2 Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu tes dan kuesioner untuk menguji kemampuan writing siswa. Data dianalisa dengan menggunakan SPSS 17 untuk menemukan skor t-test antara kedua kelompok.Hasil statistik dari pengolahan data Kelompok Eksperimental dan kelompok Kontrol menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre- test kelompok Kontrol adalah 50.15 lebih rendah dari pada kelas Experiment yaitu51.69. Sedangkan dari hasil rata- rata post test kelompok Eksperiment adalah 70.88 lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata- rata post test kelompok kontrol yaitu 58.34. Selain itu, nilai signifikansi kelompok eksperimental dan kontrol dalam post-test adalah 0.00 yang manalebih rendah dari α = 0,05. Artinya Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Ini membuktikan bahwa nilai writing pada kelas experiment lebih tinggi daripada nilai writing pada kelas control. Selanjutnya, untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap penggunaan teknik Reciprocal Scaffolding dalam mengajar keterampilan writing, satu set kuesioner yang berisi 15 pernyataan diberikan kepada 26 siswa di kelas eksperimen. Hasil dari kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa siswa memberikan respon yang baik terhadap penggunaantekhnik reciprocal scaffolding didalam pengajaran writing.
