Abstract : Ziaul Fitri :1006102050032 : English Education The Use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity in Improving students’ Reading comprehension (An Experimental Study at SMPN 8 Banda Aceh) Keywords: Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA), Reading Comprehension, Descriptive The aim of this study is to find out whether the use of DRTA strategy improve students’ reading comprehension or not. This study focused on the use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy in teaching reading comprehension for second grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh. Quantitative approach with experimental study of pretest-postest control group design was undertaken to overcome the problems faced by students in learning reading aspect. The instrument used to collect the data in this study by means of the test in the form of objective test (Multiple-choice items). This research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation result showed that observed t value is higher than t critical value in the t distribution table (4.94 > 1.69) at the 0.05 level of significance. It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The result of this study revealed there is a significant iimprove related to students’ ability in reading comprehension. Thus, DRTA strategy can be one of alternative techniques used by the teacher in teaching English particularly teaching reading comprehension in EFL class.
