Abstrak/Catatan

This study was conducted to investigate English Language Teaching for Young Learners at Nurul Quran Character Based Islamic School Aceh Besar. This is a qualitative study in which all data were described in a systematic way based on the asserted research questions. Observation sheet, interview guide, documentation, field notes and recording were used as the instrument of the study. the data were analyzed through the process of data classification, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The subject of this study was an English teacher at Nurul Quran Character Based Islamic School. This study was conducted to answer three basic research questions namely how English is taught at Nurul Quran Character Based Islamic School, teacher’s preparation before teaching English to young learners at Nurul Quran Character Based Islamic School, and problems faced by the teacher in teaching English to students at Nurul Quran Character Based Islamic School. The finding showed that the teacher made a preparation such as designing syllabus and lesson plan, preparing teaching materials, and providing teaching materials. The activities presented in the classroom were based on what were stated in the lesson plan. The activities were procedural and meet students’ level. Teacher got several problems in conducting the teaching such as the problem with curriculum, syllabus design, and lesson plan, problem with students with special needs, problem with noisy class and students discipline, problem in catching students’ attention and problem with classroom size. However, the teacher was capable to solve all the problems so that the teaching and learning could run well.
