Abstrak/Catatan

This study aims at investigating the implementation of using task-based learning applied by the English teacher through TBL (Task Based Learning) in teaching speaking at SMA Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. In order to investigate how the English teacher implements the TBL in teaching speaking, qualitative study employed by using purposive sampling. To collect data in this study, the researcher observed the English teacher regarding the teaching process of task based learning as proposed by Willis’ model (1996). The data were analyzed by following the steps of data analysis as proposed by Miles and Huberman (1984). From the result of the classroom observation shows that the teacher had attempted to implement TBL well in speaking class, although there are some steps that she had not done. Meanwhile from the result of the interview reveals that the teacher believes that the implementation of TBL in speaking class can encourage students’ motivation and participation to speak in English, even though it spends much time because not each student has enough opportunity to speak through task presentation. In addition, from the result of the teacher’s lesson plan analysis showed that it is not complete lesson plan.
