Gani, M.A. Key words: KWL Strategy, Reading Comprehension. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the use of KWL (Know-Want to Know-Learned) strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The population of this study was 120 students while the sample consisted of 60 English department students enrolled in the second semester. The sample was divided into two groups; the experimental class and the control class. The sample was chosen through random sampling technique. This study to figure out the effectiveness in implementation of KWL strategy in reading comprehension, and to find out whether KWL strategy improves students’ reading comprehension. It is designed as an experimental research. The instruments used in collecting the data were test and questionnaire. Data were analyzed through non-parametric statistical in SPSS 20. The result of Wilcoxon test is 0,00 lower than 5%. The findings reveal that there was significant different from students’ reading comprehension achievement between experimental and the control group. The mean score of the post-test for the experimental group is 9.92 while the mean score for post-test of control group is 7,91. Hence, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. Consequently, the use of KWL strategy has proven a significance improvement in the students’ reading comprehension. Some implications are derived for both students and teachers. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari tahu efek dari penerapan strategi KWL (Know-Want to Know-Learned) pada pembelajaran mata pelajaran reading comprehension. Populasi dari penelitian ini berjumlah 120 mahasiswa sedangkan sampel terdiri dari 60 mahasiswa semester dua Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Sample dibagi menjadi dua group, eksperimen dan kontrol group. Sampel dipilih menggunakan tehnik pemilihan sampel secara acak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu keefektifan dari penerapan strategi KWL pada mata kuliah reading comprehension. Penelitian ini berbentuk eksperimen. Instrumen-instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah tes dan angket. Data dianalisis menggunakan SPSS dengan cara statistik non-parametrik. Hasil dari tes menunjukkan skor 0,00 lebih rendah dari 5%. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan adanya perbedaan secara signifikan pada kemampuan membaca mahasiswa antara group eksperimen dan kontrol. Nilai rata-rata post-test dari kelas eksperimen adalah 9,92 sedangkan nilai post-test dari kelas kontrol adalah 7,91. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa alternatif hipotesis diterima sedangkan null hipotesis ditolak. Artinya ini telah membuktikan bahwa adanya peningkatan membaca siswa. Beberapa implikasi yang didapat untuk kedua-duanya murid maupun guru.
