(II) Abdul GaniAsyik, M.A., Ph.D. Keywords: SQP2RS strategy, Reading Comprehension The identified problems based on observation at grade tenth of SMA N 1 Sawang were (1)The researcher’s strategy was not effective in improving reading comprehension, it caused lack of students’ motivation for reading (2) The reading materials were not interesting and not related to students’ background knowledge (3) The students had lack of vocabulary. Based on the problems, the researcher formulated the research problems: (1) How is the process of implementing SQP2RS (Survey, Question, Predict, Read, Respond, S[ummarize) strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension at tenth graders of SMA N 1 Sawang? (2) What is the students’ result in reading comprehension after implementing SQP2RS strategy at tenth graders of SMA N 1 Sawang? (3) How do the students respond toward the implementation of SQP2RS strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension at tenth grades of SMA N 1 Sawang?To improve the present condition, SQP2RS strategy was applied to upgrade the students’ ability in reading comprehension. The research belonged to a collaborative classroom action research design in which the researcher and observer worked together in designing the lesson plan, implementing the action and making reflection. The subject of the research were the tenth graders of SMA N 1 Sawang. The study was conducted in three cycles by following the procedure of the action research, they were: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. To collect the data the researcher used the instruments, such as: test, observation sheet, field notes and questionnaire. The obtained data were presented and analyzed in qualitative and quantitative data. The mean score of students’ test in cycle 1 was 62.75, in cycle 2 was 68.75, and in cycle 3 was 77.75. The percentage of the researcher’s activities in the first cycle was 62%, in the second cycle was 73% and the third cycle was 86%. It indicated that the researcher could improve her quality in reading class when implementing SQP2RS strategy. And the result of students’ observation sheet in the first cycle was 46%, and it increased to 63% till 78%.The students had positive responses toward the implementation of SQP2RS strategy in learning reading comprehension process in their class. It was proved by overall mean score of five factors measured were 3.67.
