vii of smpn 1 sawang by using think pair and share. this cooperative learning technique encourages students to be more active when learning in the classroom. this classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. when the researcher was in progress, the students average score in cycle i was 64.38, and it increased to be 70.61 in cycle ii. these two scores proved that the implementation of think pair and share could successfully improved the studentsí skill in understanding a descriptive text. this also indicated that the hypothesis of action of this research could be accepted. based on the result of this classroom action research, it is suggested to english teachers to implement think pair and share technique as an alternative for teaching reading.
